Ripstop is woven with a reinforced grid of thicker threads — here in a diamond pattern. If the fabric gets nicked, the grid stops the tear from spreading. It's the same construction used in parachutes, tents and outdoor jackets.
Is it waterproof?
It's water-resistant — the fabric sheds light rain, drizzle and splashes. For a heavy downpour or river crossing, use a rain cover.
